Welcome to Hardin County, “a great place to live, work and prosper!” The county is made up of 9 communities (Ada, Alger, Dunkirk, Forest, Kenton, McGuffey, Mt. Victory, Patterson, and Ridgeway) and 15 townships with the City of Kenton serving as the county seat. Hardin County was founded in 1820 and later organized in 1833. It is named for John Hardin, an officer in the American Revolution. Primarily an agricultural area since its early existence, Hardin County today continues to be very active in farming and agribusiness but has made great advancements in manufacturing, medical, technology, and higher education with local, national and international influence.
